Erell, the French street art creator, has won recognition not only within the ranks of street art, but also among the public who likes modern art. He was born in Avignon in 1987, then settled in Lyon, where he is still actively creating. Hungarian viewers can view his special paintings at the Street Up festival in Pécs, after the audience was introduced to his individual visual sign system at the 2023 Lokart.
Geometric patterns, abstract shapes
The striking geometric patterns and abstract shapes make Erell's art truly special. His creations are often connected to urban spaces and depict a dynamic process of thought that harmonizes and contrasts with the environment at the same time. The module he uses is a shape derived from the division of a regular hexagon. Erell multiplies this in his works, creating an infinite number of "molecular" motifs and compositions. One of his most memorable works is "Biotop", which was created as part of a series and examines the relationship between nature and the human environment. Against the chaos of urbanization, Erell's works are created with almost mathematical precision.
Thought-provoking diversity
Erell's works are given a deeper layer of meaning by special locations and multiple creative techniques. He has also made his characteristic geometric symbols from rusty steel sheets, and he has also shown his specific compositions in many other forms, including urban collages, i.e. stenciling and large murals. His works immediately come to the center of our attention not only because of their attractive visuals, but also because of their thought-provoking nature. Erell encourages passers-by to reinterpret the urban environment. In 2022, for example, he was a member of the seven-person street art collective whose members told their everyday stories on the steps of the Paris metro, thereby bringing Parisians even closer to street art.
It fills us with joy that MaxCity can be the cultural ambassador of this inspiring artist in Hungary. Meet Erell's works at the Street Up festival in Pécs!
